Inspect it before opening tools

Look for damage, loose hinges, missing screws, worn ports and charger problems. Ask the seller to show that the laptop starts normally and can be used without another person’s account lock. Do not accept a browser score as proof of ownership or a substitute for purchase documentation.

Check display and input

Use the Dead Pixel Test and inspect all backgrounds. Run the Keyboard Test for the keys you use, then check trackpad movement and buttons. Test ports with suitable accessories you brought rather than relying on a visual inspection alone.

Check calls and connectivity

Run the Webcam Test, Microphone Test and Speaker Test. Connect to a known network when practical. Get permission before testing somebody else’s device and stop media streams afterwards.

Inspect what the browser cannot see

Ask to review battery health and storage health using appropriate operating-system or manufacturer tools. Check charging and the system’s reported specifications. A webpage cannot reliably inspect SSD wear, temperature under load, firmware locks or malware. A short visit cannot reveal every intermittent fault.

Record unresolved issues

Use the Laptop Check only as a browser readiness aid. Write down anything you could not verify and clarify the seller’s return arrangements before deciding. Do not enter personal passwords or transfer private files to an unfamiliar laptop during inspection.
