Compress PDF
Compress scanned PDFs locally by rebuilding pages as images. Adjust quality and resolution; read the flattening trade-off before saving.
Compress a PDF
How to use this tool
- Choose a PDF and keep the original unchanged.
- Choose quality and maximum page width, then compress.
- Compare file size and inspect small text on the downloaded copy.
What the results mean
This tool renders pages into compressed images and rebuilds the PDF. It is best suited to scans. Output may be larger for an already-optimised or text-based PDF. Searchable text, links, forms, signatures and accessibility structure are not preserved by this method.
Common problems
If fine print becomes unclear, use a higher quality or page width. Avoid this method for forms, signed documents or files that must retain accessible text. Large PDFs can exceed browser memory; use smaller files or a suitable desktop tool.
Privacy and data use
PDF bytes are processed locally. Third-party CDNs deliver processing libraries; those requests expose connection metadata, but the tool does not send your PDF to them.
Frequently asked question
Can I keep selectable text after compression?
Not with this method. Pages are flattened to images. Keep the original when searching, copying text, form fields or accessibility matter.
